As a child, I had to live with a different kin for several periods of time because mum could not afford a sitter to watch me while she is off at work.
It came to a point where I had to live with my nan for good. At a tender age of two, I felt like being apart from my mum was a very sad thing to happen.
An auntie gave me a copy of Archie comics to get my mind off things. Back then, I found the story lines very entertaining. It kept me going for months before I moved on to proper literature.
While window-shopping at a local bookstore the other day, I saw the latest issue of Jughead Double Digest on the shelf. Jughead is Archie’s gluttonous best friend and he was my favorite character. He is reed-thin despite his eating habits and when analysed from an adult point of view, may have a serious eating disorder. I grabbed a copy thought it nearly cost me a set of toes, for old time’s sake.
After reading through one story, I realized why I moved on. The story lines can be stupid. Some do not even make sense to the humour of a grown up. I kept the comic book anyway. Reminds me to think outside the box and be creative.
